The Internet and Plagiarism The World Wide Web is larger than any one person can imagine. There are an infinite amount of links to libraries and other sources of information. There are numerous search engines, such as Yahoo, which make researching really easy. We can find anything that we want on line, because there are no boundaries to our explorations, and there are no laws to stop us. You can find anything from socks to guns. People can even find completed research papers online; they simply copy and paste it to a new document, make a few adjustments, and it is ready to turn in. Un-honest people do this every day, and it has become a common problem among high schools and colleges. This is a serious problem known as†¦show more content†¦She was very competitive, very intelligent, and she wanted to be the best. So, it was a shock to the whole school when she was expelled for plagiarizing a published poem. There are severe punishments for plagiarizing! Lake Superior State University’s po ssible consequences for plagiarism are as follows: â€Å"a grade of â€Å"F† for that assignment, a forced withdrawal from the course, a course grade of â€Å"F†, academic probation or suspension, and expulsion from the university.2† Also, that incident will go into your academic records. You can plagiarize just about anything you want; from music to software, to bootleg DVDs to research papers. All of which is right at our fingertips. It was surveyed that at least half of college students admitted to cheating at least once in their lifetime (u-wire.com). This is a completely inappropriate way of getting things done. I would not recommend anybody to plagiarize because it is immoral, and embarrassing if caught. Besides, would you want someone to copy something you worked hard on, and not receive credit for doing it? To be frank, the Internet plays a negative role in plagiarism. The general public has access to millions of legal, and illegal resources at their fingertips. All of this information can be plagiarized easily. All you have to do is highlight a paragraph, copy it, go to a new document and paste it.
